KJo discovers Alia Bhatt
Karan Johar’s upcoming ‘Student of the Year’ has a special feature inasmuch at presents three new talents making their debut. They are Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and writer Niranjan Iyengar. Karan recalls how a tubby, 17-year-old Alia, second daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and Sonia Razdan, surprised her by being selected among first ten from amongst 500 contestants. He had another shock when Alia sang to Sonam Kapoor's song Bahara from ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ with all her jhatkas and matkas. Similarly, Alia too was kicked when she heard that Karan was going to be direct her debut film. Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment's Student Of The Year releases on October 19.
Bhagnani Jr in Priyan’s next film
Jaccky Bhagnani will soon be seen in director Priyadarshan’s still untitled movie. Priyan has assigned him the lead role of a college going boy opposite actress Priya Anand from South. The film's about youngsters who fall in love and get married in haste, and then get divorced with similar speed. The director says he has already started shooting in Mumbai, and 30% of the film is over. Priyan is greatly impressed with Jaccky’s next-door boy image in the movie and also finds him quite fit for the role.
Prabhu Deva signs Shruti
Prabhu Deva has signed actress Shruti Hassan as the lead actress for his next film. Making his debut in Bollywood as director with Salman Khan-starrer 'Wanted', Prabhu Deva's second film, Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Rowdy Rathore' released recently fared too well at the box office. His third venture will be a musical love story, produced by Kumar Taurani of Tips. While Taurani's son Girish will be making his debut as an actor in the yet-to-be named film, Shruti has been confirmed opposite him. Though Shruti has never worked with him before, she is very excited to get an opportunity to work with Deva, who, she believes, is very clear, efficient and good director. He focuses on one’s performance and not worry about other things. The shooting for the film is likely to begin from August.
Kangna turns director
Himalayan beauty Kangna Ranaut dons another hat this time. She crosses over to the megaphone though she hasn’t yet quit acting. Her directorial debut is a short film, written in collaboration with an Australian writer. Though still untitled, the movie has been shot in Los Angeles with an all-American cast and crew and deals with a complex subject involving a dog and a four-year-old boy. Kangna said that the decision to direct was well thought out and came to light "after meeting Hollywood biggies during one of my recent trips to Los Angeles. And things just fell into place. The actress intends to send the film for international festivals. She is presently working on six films with big banners and has very tight schedules and back-to-back shifts.
Chitra as playback singer
Actress Chitrangada Singh, who will be seen performing an item number in Shirish Kunder's upcoming film 'Joker', will lend her voice to the remix version of the song 'I Want Just You'. The original has been sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and it has become viral online, which made the filmmakers think about taking a step further to cash on its popularity. 'Joker' is about a village called Paglapur that does not have basic facilities like water and electricity. No one is ready to solve the problem, but our Khiladi actor Akshay Kumar is ready and creates drama involving aliens. The film is set to release on August 31.
