Unfortunately, a remake of a remake takes a lot to get past the audience. Director duo Abbas-Mustan's 'Players' - official remake of Hollywood's heist flick 'The Italian Job' that itself is a remake of a British caper by the same title. Director duo put in a lot of masala to make it an entertainer for desi viewers. But, copy or not, masala or what, 'Players' just didn't cut it with the audience! The movie is packed with action like its western versions. There's a gang of experts in stealing gold comprising Charlie Masacarenhas played by Abhishek Bachchan, Victor Dada by Vinod Khanna, Bilal by Sikander Kher, Rony by Bobby Deol, Spider by Neil Nitin Mukesh, Riya by Bipasha Basu and Sunny by Omi Vaidya. They are all well trained - PLAYERS - in the game of stealing a whooping amount of gold. They all play their foolproof parts in pulling off the heist. Alan Amin of the 'Force' fame is also there to lend a sharp action to the film.

The movie history is that it's based on the 1915 episode when Romania sent its pure gold collection worth a huge amount to Russia for safe deposit. But, Russia never gave it back. However, after resumption of bilateral trade between the two countries, Russia sends gold back to Romania. Since gold is sent by train, it attracts those who have a mission to amass gold. These are seasoned heist masters in the game of stealing gold.

Abhishek Bachchan is the catalyst. He is ably helped by none other than Vinod Khanna who's languishing in jail for earlier sins! Since the players have just 10 odd minutes to steal the gold from a moving train, they shine in their true colors. Sikander, an explosive expert, and Bobby Deol, an illusionist, make a brief cameo. Johnny Lever as the auto expert and Omi Vaidya as a makeup expert tickle the funny bone with their usual crowning tricks. Insofar as acting goes, Abhishek truly repeats his 'Dhoom' character and Bipasha that of a glamorous girl (this time in red bikini) as in 'Race'. Sonam Kapoor plays Naina to meet Neil as he killed her dad! Neil is a kind of wild gambler at heart with a twist in the soul and tango in the feet! He slam-dances his way away as the ultimate crook.

The story is old enough and therefore doesn't appeal to the audience. Pritam does provide melodious music. But, the double remake just doesn't have it to make the audience rave and rant. Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Don2', already running, is gonna give 'Players' little room on the box office.
