Raj Kanwar passes away

Filmmaker Raj Kanwar passed away in Singapore on Friday (February 3). He had been suffering from kidney trouble and had been on dialysis in Mumbai for a while. He had reportedly gone to Singapore for a kidney transplant. According to reports, there were complications post surgery and he passed away at approximately 11 am IST. He was 50. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Kanwar's body was flown to Mumbai and cremated on Feb 5.

Kanwar began his career as an assistant to filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and later with Rajkumar Santoshi. He made his directorial debut with the Rishi Kapoor-Divya Bharati film ‘Deewana’ (1992), which also marked Shah Rukh Khan's debut! The film was a huge hit and he followed it up with other successes like ‘Laadla’, ‘Jaan’, ‘Jeet’, ‘Daag - The Fire’, ‘Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega’, ‘Andaaz’ and ‘Humko Deewana Kar Gaye’. His last directorial venture ‘Sadiyaan’ was meant to launch Shatrughan Sinha's son Luv as an actor. It didn't take off though. He had also written a film called ‘Mad’ and was planning to make it .Alas, it remains an unfulfilled dream.
