Indian filmmaker Gurinder Chadha based in the UK and famous for her ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ and ‘Bride and Prejudice’ is now making a movie on partition of India to be shot in Delhi and Jodhpur. Her choice of actors to play India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru is none other than Chhote Nawab Saif Ali Khan. She wants veteran Nasseruddin Shah to play Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Though she is yet to zero in on the actor to play Lord Mountbatten( the chief architect of Partition) either of the two Hollywood biggies -- Colin Firth or Michael Fassbender - is most likely to be cast in this historical role. The movie will be set in January 1947 when Mountbatten was asked to oversee India and end his role on August 1947.

Gurinder has already got the necessary permission to shoot everywhere in India including Rashtrapati Bhavan. Strangely, she is waiting to start shooting in October 2012, presumably on the advice of her astrologer. He says that the wife of the author of the book, on which her partition film is based, is heavily into astrology. For now, she is looking forward to running between Blackpool and Manchester with the Olympics torch on June 23, 2012. Though it`s just a 300-yard run, she has been practicing for it for months. There will be 8,000 people to cheer her on with drums and other musical instruments. Incidentally, she has shed a lot of weight.
