'Chaalis Chauraasi' (4084) may well be the savior for Bollywood on an auspicious donw day like Lohri on Januyar 13, 2012. The credit for the movie's huge success it itssenior cast comprising Naseeruddin Shah, Atul Kulkarni, Ravi Kissen and Kay Kay Menon, besides Zakir Husain. The movie's story is also interesting inasmuch as it revolves around four friends who want to rob a lonely house in a lonely stretch. The robbers are also on the lookout for Rs 20-crore fake Indian currency vending machine inside the house. The story's biggest flaw is that the gang has no plan to fulfill their high ambitions.

In critical analysis, we find that the cast shoulders the movie. The four friends -- Pankaj played by Naseeruddin Shah, Bobby by Atul Kulkarni, Shakti Chinappa by Ravi Kissen and Albert Pinto by Kay Kay Menon carry the entire movie on their strong shoulders. Director Hriday Shetty just doesn't provide a plan to take the stor to its logical end. All the characters go their different ways. KK is indeed a car thief who lays his hands on all kinds of cars but wants a vintage Fiat! Atul Kulkarni ends up being a singer in a bar. Ravi Kissen is a perfect drug peddler. However, on top of all of them is Naseeruddin Shah, speaking fluent English as the head of that department. He convinces us when he describes the 'anatomy' of a fellow biology professor he once had a crush on. However, a violent fight with the wife played by Shweta Bhardwaj leads him to be jailed for ten years. Now, he claims to be a hardened criminal.

The movie's title isn't for nothing. It has a strong base. These thieves steal a car with its number plate 4084. The story has a twist here. They lose this very car and pose as cops to recover it, but in vain. At this juncture, a real cop played by Rajesh Sharma assigns these four friends a dangerous job of looking for a dreaded convict played by Zakir Hussain, who is escaping the police net. The movie's climax is violent, showing a man who gets electrocuted, burnt, and shot through the throat! All this is supposedly funny because those killed are from the opposite party! Thus, they entertain the audience through their fun and frolic. As a result, the movie turns into a comedy.

Hriday Shetty succeeds in giving us an entertainer with a superb performance of his cast. Earlier, he directed 'Pyaar Mein Twist'. Zakir Hussain and Shweta play their given roles very well and lend support to their co-stars.
